The UWI School of Nursing currently offers three undergraduate programs: The UWI School of Nursing, Mona offers Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing programs for a nationally and regionally diverse student body. Our undergraduate nursing program includes both a program (pre/RN) and a BScN Registered Nurse completion program (Post RN). Upon completion of either program, a Bachelor of Science (BScN) in Nursing is awarded. This degree is offered at: UWI Mona Campus, Western Jamaica Campus and in partnership with tertiary level institutions The aim of the programme is to provide the educational and experiential foundation for professional nursing practice and to provide a foundation on which to build a career through university-level studies in specialist fields such as midwifery. Nurse practitioners, clinical specialists, nurse administrators and educators. The goal of the program is to prepare professional nurses who have leadership skills and skills to meet the demands of a growing and changing health system. Programs are delivered in person through a mix of classroom and laboratory instruction, with clinical experience offered in a variety of educational and health settings. Applicants with 2 or more subjects in CXC/CSEC General 3 or GCE Level C or a combination of both are not considered admitted to the program. Applications duly completed with the above requirements should be submitted to the Principal Deputy Registrar, Office of Admissions, University of the West Indies, Mona, Kingston 7, Jamaica Individuals aged 21 and over who do not meet the eligibility criteria may be considered for admission to the program. Applicants must provide full details of their academic and professional achievements and overall experience The program spans three (3) full-time semesters at the UWI School of Nursing. Each course is delivered with in-person events, with the exception of the practicum or courses that have a clinical practice component. This theory and clinical practice program consists of 120 credits and is offered in eight (8) semesters and (1) summers. Candidates who successfully complete this Bachelor of Science in Nursing program may register for the Regional Nurses` Registration Examination (RRR). This allows the individual to practice nursing in Jamaica and other CARICOM countries. Our center is working with a team at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to develop an article that describes the state of nursing research and makes recommendations to increase the research performance of nurses in the Caribbean. Applicants who successfully complete this BScN programme may apply to the Jamaica Council of Nurses for the title of Registered General Nurse (RNN).

Applicants` academic qualifications must include the following subjects/levels: The Bachelor of Science in Nursing – Post Registration, (BSN Post Registration) is designed for applicants who are already in the nursing profession, as a requirement for this program is that applicants must be a registered nurse. A subject of: Biology, Human and Social Biology, Integrated Natural Sciences or Biology (CAPE) The BSN Post Registration comprises four (4) areas of specialization, as described below: a subject in mathematics, physics or statistics. Our center is mandated by PAHO to strengthen the capacity of educators in CARICOM countries to implement interprofessional training as part of the regional human resources strategy for health and universal health coverage. We conducted a survey of educators in CARICOM countries to determine faculty training needs related to interprofessional education. Following the needs analysis, a three-day training workshop on the development, implementation and evaluation of interprofessional programs will be held. The Post-Registration Diploma in Medical Visits provides the knowledge, skills, abilities, attitudes and values that are collectively related to the professional competencies and performance expectations of the nurses assigned to the health care facility. Mathematics or Pure Mathematics (CAPE) or Applied Mathematics (CAPE) BSN pre-registration is offered full-time over four calendar years. The goal is to develop students` knowledge, skills and clinical practice to become qualified nurses who provide high quality care services to patients/clients in preventive, acute, long-term and continuing care.

Unlike post-registration BSN, BSN pre-registration is for entry-level applicants who are new to the nursing profession and is suitable for applicants who are not registered nurses. The duration of our full-time program is one calendar year over three semesters; And the duration of our part-time studies is two calendar years over six semesters. Each candidate must pass the Regional Nurse Registration Examination (RRR) to be registered with the Register of General Nurses in Jamaica, use the Registered General Nurse (RNN) designation, and be eligible to practice as an RGN in Jamaica or a CARICOM country. BSN Post Registration is offered full-time and part-time, with classes in the “summer” session and evenings. one subject in biology, human and social biology, integrated sciences and two subjects in agricultural sciences, geography, Caribbean history, modern language, social studies, religious education, food and nutrition, home economics management, calculus principle, business principles, English literature, business administration, information technology or chemistry; andHave successfully completed 1st semester/year courses at a college recognized by the University of the West Indies or 3 for credits.
